My co-professor for Souvenir Foto School mentioned yesterday that we have 10 days till launch, which got me thinking about writing my own testimonial.  I know that may seem biased to write a testimonial for my own class, but really Souvenir Foto School is nothing without the participants, the students make the class. The photo above was from one of the first sessions.  I have always tried to change the themes up to keep the creativity flowing.  The assignment for that week was 'shoes'. I was sweating it because I was working from 6 a.m. til what felt like midnight and wasn't sure how I was going to pull a shot off. I did and this was the result. Truth be told, it is still one of my very  favorite photographs and I have it blown up in our living room. My little 3 lb. dog refused to not be part of the shoot, but wouldn't 'model' either, so I just worked with what I had. A lesson that you learn in class.

In the time that I have been teaching the classes, which has been a few year now, I have watched as students opened up their Etsy shops to sell their photographs, one student was tapped to shoot for a major travel magazine (proud is an understatement), a few have taken photography as their profession, professional photographers in the class have felt re-invigorated and it has been an all-and-all grand experience!  You don't need special equipment, you don't need to know how to shoot, all you need is the desire to become a better photographer and to be willing to commit to the class. Everyone that has committed has gotten better, that's a fact. We have TWO scholarships still available for those that can't budget this into their expenses (trust me, we understand this, I started this  school when I got my salary cut IN HALF). If you want to be considered for the scholarships the requirements are as follows:
  • Must have something to shoot with (a camera phone, a point and shoot, anything)
  • You must have access to a computer so you can upload your photos each day.
  • You must commit to taking a photograph a day for 30 days. No quitting, no excuses.
  • You must want this more than the other students applying by helping us spread the word.
You can leave a comment below or email me privately, Michelle my co-professor and myself will go through the list and choose accordingly.  If you can add this to your budget, we believe this could be the class that takes your photography to the next level. We've seen it time and time again to be confident in writing this.  For more details and to sign-up visit  here.

If you have burning questions please leave them in comments!

I need to learn more about the bits and bobs on my camera, but this class looks mighty fine. Hmmmm?.....
I cannot wait to see your office redo!
Have a fantastic day!

The only thing that is holding me back on showing the office is the light fixture! I can't show it with the current one it's ridiculously ugly, seriously!

Ah, I'm struggling so hard with deciding if I want to do this. It's been on my mind all weekend. I have two issues. 1. I have zero follow through. I beat myself up about it all the time. I was going to get better with it, but see I have no follow through. 2. This time of year it's dark when I get home and there is zilch natural light to shoot with. It's very frustrating.

Will you be doing another one this summer? I think I would be much more inclined to take pics when the weather is nice and I have good light to shoot in.

Miss B. (January 24, 2012 at 4:39 PM)

Miss Toi, yes of course we will be doing many more with a different theme. I am going to need to shoot with flash when I get home from work because it's still dark outside when I get ready for work, but I have some ideas to make this work for me (uhm, I hope!)

I just signed up - I had so much fun doing it last year! And I did a post about it, hoping some of my friends and readers will join. See you on Flickr!

I would love to take this class and fall in love with photography again. Since I've retired my old film SLR and am using a point-and-shoot and my camera phone, I haven't kept up as much with photography, feeling that my pix are somewhat inferior. This class sounds perfect, but having just moved and being in between jobs, it's not quite in my budget at the moment. I'd love to be considered for the scholarship. Either way, thanks for the inspiration, Miss B.!

I'd love love love to take this class! I'm already doing a photo a day challenge that I've put on myself and I can tell that my photos are getting boring...and I've only been doing this for a 25 days! Yikes! HOw can I make it the whole year! :( I know this class will get me set up for success for the rest of the year. Fingers crossed!!

I'd love to take this class. I'm currently a grad student researcher and since research started taking over my life, I haven't done so much photography. I think a large part of the problem is that I have a hard time thinking of interesting things to shoot. Everything seems ho-hum to me. Maybe this class would inspire me to think outside of my world of chemistry? I'd love to be considered for a scholarship if they are still available!

I would be delighted to receive on of your scholarships. I've just taken a few steps to make some major changes in my life and letting out/supporting my creativity is one of them. I did photography in school when you still needed a dark room and I loved it. I think I would love this too.

Just took the plunge and signed up! Very excited about this as I've been wanting to challenge myself to do more photography this year. Just the boost I needed! Thanks Miss B!

I started blogging this year and I would love to work on my photography skills. It sounds like a wonderful class, but I'm paying my way through school right now and it's not quite in the budget so I would love to be considered for a scholarship!

What fun! So disappointed that I found out about Souvenir Foto School too late. Love your blog!

Oh no I missed this scholarship call :( It still looks like a great class, and the daily commitment would force me to do something apart from my grad school research (biology). (OK just saw that the class is also full! hope you'll have a repeat :) )
